In partnership with True North Gallery | The Music Gallery of Fine Art, the DCMA presents a unique collection of artwork created by music industry legends that we all know and love, with works by Canadian musicians such as Buffy Sainte Marie, Danny McBride, and Murray McLauchlan, as well as examples from the portfolios of John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Patti Smith, and Ronnie Wood.

Nayaano-nibiimaang Gichigamiin presents a new series of honouring blankets for the Five Great Lakes. Each blanket is a homage to a specific Great Lake and retells Anishinaabeg historical and cultural narratives through the use of mnemonic iconography and code embedded into each blanket strip. The exhibition runs at Station Gallery from June 3 to July 2, with a reception June 3 at 1pm.

The Great Canadian LEEDscape is an original painting panorama, which explores the ongoing transformation of Canada’s natural and built environments. It consists of thirteen panels, one for each province and territory in Canada. The regions are positioned from west to east, according to the longitude of each capital city. Leading
examples of sustainable architecture are combined with neighboring trees, mountains and waterways. This painting examines Canada’s changing urban landscape.

In celebration of our nation’s historic birthday, The Remington Group presents the Canada 150 Photo Trail, depicting 150 quintessentially Canadian images from the New York Times Canadian Photo Archive. The specially selected photos will be on display at the Pride of Canada Carousel on Canada Day weekend.

The photos cover a diverse assortment of themes ranging from singing WWII soldiers, frozen Niagara Falls, sealers perched on icebergs, to soot-covered miners toiling deep within the earth. Notable photos of Canadian icons include Pierre Trudeau, Karen Kain, Mark Messier, Michael J. Fox and Barbara Ann Scott. Images from the Archive also feature prominent international figures on official visits to Canada, including the Royal Family, Dwight Eisenhower and Sir Winston Churchill.

Learn about the only mammals that can fly and how their incredible echo-location system works! The evening will begin with a presentation covering a wide variety of bat related topics, including the species native to Ontario and threats such as White-nose Syndrome. The participants will then go out onto the Kortright Centre property to view live bats as they forage for insects overhead and identify them using sophisticated audio detection tools!
