It’s the time of year when the holiday spirit takes over York Durham Headwaters. Each community celebrates the season in their special ways. Decorated downtown storefronts, sipping hot chocolate, and children spotting Santa from Orangeville to Oshawa! On the easternmost side of the GTA, Clarington Country is full of Christmas celebrations. The city feel, and community charm makes Clarington the place to embrace the holidays! Here are some of the Christmas-themed activities you will find:
Christmas in Clarington Country
When: November 24th to 26th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
This celebration is your chance to shop and support local business. It’s a mall-free shopping tour featuring businesses, artists, and activities! Get all of your Christmas shopping done early, with this weekend-long celebration of the season and the region. It’s an annual tradition that has everything you need to get into the holiday spirit! Six businesses are participating this year:
Timeless Essentials is home to Crystal, a certified Herbologist who creates handmade soap, a full bath and body line and jams, jellies, and marmalade. You will also find gourmet soup, dips, cookies, and BBQ spice blends. During Christmas in Clarington, you can sample her product line, chat about essential oils, enjoy a fresh coffee and meet the guest artists (including crochet work, photography and a fabric artist who creates aprons and other wearable art).
The Tyrone Mills Ltd. is a working 1846 water-powered mill that produces lumber, flour, and baked goods. The first floor features a store and bakery where you can purchase local food-related products. On the second floor, there is an antique woodworking shop.
Gallery On The Farm is a family-owned farm that sells certified organic freezer meat year round. The farm store features local artisans (woodworking, quilting, jewellery, pottery, fused glass, and photography), artwork (oil, pen and ink, and watercolour), lavender products, honey, Thornloe and Wilton cheese, baked goods, and maple syrup. During Christmas in Clarington local artisans showcase their works on a larger scale, so you will be sure to find that ideal gift!
Martin and Petra love honey, honey bees, and beeswax and their passion shows in the quality of their products. You can enjoy their delicious, unpasteurized honey along with pure beeswax candles, jellies, and jams. During Christmas in Clarington, a wood turner will be onsite with handcrafted wood products.
Rosemary Jenkins creates individually handcrafted and pottery that is guaranteed to become a delightful conversation piece in your home or the perfect gift for the pottery lover on your list. Her studio gives you a chance to meet an artist who creates beautiful, functional pieces of pottery. During Christmas in Clarington, she will have two guests artists selling woodworking, paintings, cards, and original mosaic garden stones.
Drop into Archibald’s Winery during Christmas in Clarington for complimentary wine tasting, food matching, and entertaining tips. They will have a number of guest artists at the winery displaying and selling their one of a kind creations. You will find everything from handmade teddy bears, silk scarves, and fabric purses to pamper products and mixed media art.

Carolling, tree lighting, wagon rides, and Santa – all the ingredients of a perfect holiday celebration. Celebrate the holiday season at this popular event in Historic Downtown Bowmanville. Bring your family downtown for carolling and countdown to the lighting of the Christmas tree in the town square. Your kids can also have their picture taken with Santa and his live reindeer.
Enjoy free horse-drawn wagon rides along the main street. A perfect way to carry all of your parcels as you shop at local stores that are open late for evening holiday shopping. It’s a great way to usher in the holiday season!
Santa Claus Parades
It wouldn’t be Christmas without a parade. Parades have brought our communities together for decades. Here is a list of Clarington’s many Santa Claus Parades:
When: Saturday, November 18, 2017
This entertaining event starts at 10:30 a.m. and winds its way down King St. from Scugg to Simpson. The parade is run by community volunteers and attracts over 15,000 people to downtown Bowmanville each year.
When: Sunday, December 3, 2017
Celebrate an Old Fashioned Christmas theme at the 5th Annual Courtice Santa Claus Parade. The parade begins at noon at Townline and Nash Rd and travels east on Nash, ending at George Reynolds Drive.

The Newcastle Santa Parade kicks off with a fantastic fireworks display at 5:30 p.m. It’s followed by a parade filled with marching bands, clowns, and beautifully light up floats that children of all ages enjoy. This year’s theme for the Parade is ‘Winter Wonderland.’ The parade will proceed easterly from North Street along King Avenue to Arthur/Brookhouse Street.

Santa is arriving in Orono! Remember your letter for Santa and bring a non-perishable food item. They will be collected along the parade route, and it’s the perfect way to participate in Christmas giving.

Farmers from Tyrone, Haydon, Enniskillen, and Enfield say thank you to friends and neighbours for sharing the roads with slow moving vehicles and farm machinery by lighting up the night with a gorgeous display of Christmas spirit!
