The McMichael Canadian Art Collection is where this winter escape begins. Located in the Village of Kleinburg, the McMichael, devoted to celebrating the Art of Canada, is uniquely situated on 100 acres of forested land along the Humber River. Its permanent collection includes more than 6,400 artworks by Tom Thomson, the Group of Seven, their contemporaries, and First Nations, Métis, Inuit and contemporary artists. From the art on the walls to its surrounding landscape, the McMichael will introduce you to a wide range of Canada’s art, art-making and artists.
Next, make your way over to Historic Unionville and stroll along Main Street visiting the boutiques, art galleries, café’s and a slew of culturally diverse restaurants for an early dinner. Top off dinner at the Old Fire Hall Confectionary with some premium ice cream or handmade fudge. Just down the street, check in to the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites Conference Centre and freshen up for an evening at the theatre! Take in a show at one of York Region’s world class performance venues – The Flato Markham Theatre or The Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing Arts.
Day two is all about relaxation. Wake up at your leisure, and enjoy a late breakfast onsite in Essence of Unionville restaurant, or stay in bed a little longer and indulge in a warm breakfast in bed thanks to the convenience of room service. Whichever you decide, once breakfast is done, head on over to the upscale Glow Medi Spa, a full-service spa conveniently located on the main floor, for some well-deserved pampering time! Be sure to make advance reservations to avoid disappointment. Freshly relaxed from the spa, it’s time to hit the road, but first grab a coffee or tea and a pastry to go!
