Enjoy a winter wonderland weekend getaway in Georgina, located just an hour north of Toronto. Begin your weekend escape whisking down The ROC’s exhilarating four-run snow tube course. Or, for the less adventurous or young ones, pack your skates and sled, and try out the free toboggan hill and ice-skating rink right next to the Tube park. All this outdoor fun is sure to work up an appetite, so make your way to Sutton next for a bit to eat at Papa Luigi’s. Spend some time strolling along High St with a hot beverage and freshly baked treat in hand from Elaine’s Black River Coffee. Stop in right next door at The Sutton General Store for that unique find. Head to The Briars Resort and Spa next, and call it a day. Warm up by the bonfire or explore the picturesque grounds via a horse drawn sleigh or a leisure skate on the front lawn of this winter wonderland.
Day two will be like no other when you take in a traditional Canadian winter experience – ice fishing! Pack a cooler for the day and venture off onto the frozen waters of Lake Simcoe. Lake Simcoe has been dubbed the ‘ice fishing capital of Canada’ and is home to some of the best ice fishing for perch and whitefish. A number of ice hut operators are available along the Georgina shores of Lake Simcoe, with most providing transportation to and from the huts, along with bait and tackle. Spend the day making memories inside the warmth and comfort of the ice hut. When you’re ready to call it a day, return to the shore and refuel at The Boondocks Eatery, taking in a final view of Lake Simcoe, before hitting the road for home.
