Did you know that nearly all reptiles lay shelled eggs? Or that most reptiles are cold blooded? You can learn interesting facts like these and more by slithering on down to Reptilia for an up close look at more than 200 different reptiles and amphibians. The zoo features a diverse range of species in 53 large exhibits across the 25,000 square foot facility. You’ll be able to meet some of the more famous inhabitants, including the 14-foot, 1,200-pound Nile crocodile and a King Cobra (named the King) whose supper meals have been known to consist of goats. Reptilia is also home to Mr. Nibbles the red-footed tortoise and Lou the America Alligator, all of whom are ready for you to stop in and say hello.
There are venomous and non-venomous nurseries to peer into, and those interested in seeing how reptiles consume their food will have the opportunity to see snakes, alligators and even toads eat their prey during one of the four daily feedings.
You can meet some of the reptiles during the daily theatre shows, where local staff known as Cast Members get hands-on with the animals and highlight key facts about each species. For a special zoo tour, guided experiences are available where you can hear more about the diversity and behaviour of some of Reptilia’s species and get an opportunity for some great photos.
Reptilia is open every day of the year, except Christmas Day.
