All aboard the York-Durham Heritage Railway for an invigorating train ride on a heritage or vintage rail coach. Mesmerizing scenes of the Oak Ridges Moraine pass you by along this family friendly train ride experience that operates on Sundays from June until the end of October.
The locomotives date back to the 1950s and the featured passenger coaches were either built just after World War 1 or also in the 1950s. The railway operates as a tourist attraction and connects the communities of Whitchurch-Stouffville and Uxbridge.
On board, you’ll have the chance to purchase souvenirs or even a bite to eat from the snack bar. Kids will surely remain amused with face painting, balloon animals and even a toy train aboard the actual train for them to play with.
The York-Durham Heritage Railway is pleased to operate special event trips throughout the year. Saturday fall foliage voyages offer you a front row seat to one of Mother Nature’s finest displays of colour theory during the autumn months. Kids will want to hop on for the teddy bear train, when the railway’s resident plush animal doctor checks your favourite stuffed pal for bumps and bruises. There’s also the spooky and very popular Halloween train ride featuring fun entertainment for all ages and a free ticket for those dressed in costumes (and under the age of 12). If you’re in town for the Whitchurch-Stouffville Strawberry Festival, you can even grab a train ride to the mmm mmm good festivities.
