Shadowpath Theatre is a theatre company that turns everyday spaces into creative places. By partnering with businesses in the community, Shadowpath highlights the unique spaces that exist in York Region and brings them to life with original arts programming. This innovative approach to creative partnerships is a win-win-win situation: bringing new patronage to businesses, providing new platforms for local artists AND offering people a different and accessible way to experience the performing arts.

Plays In Cafés is a series that began in 2006 and features three short plays (10 – 15 minutes each), written by local playwrights and performed by professional actors in cafés all across York Region. People can grab a coffee, catch a play and enjoy a live musician in between. This 90-minute event is short and sweet and offers playwrights an opportunity to test out a new script while providing the public with an entertaining cup of java.

Readings In Wineries is a laid back event that began in 2013, where patrons can sample some of York Region’s finest wines while enjoying an impromptu play-reading. Shadowpath actors join brave theatre enthusiasts as roles are handed out. Whether patrons read a role or sit back and enjoy the drama, this unique event shares the creative process with all.

Hotel Solstice is a partnership with hotels where patrons can chart their own creative course as they walk around and explore the space. Plays in hotel rooms, musicians on the patio, artists in the lobby, dancers in the ballrooms, film in the boardrooms – this multi-arts event features every kind of art under one roof. This event happens on the solstice and is in celebration of summer, community spirit, and arts and culture.

Though Shadowpath produces 7 – 8 shows a year, businesses have now begun to request Shadowpath programming at their special events. Conferences, anniversaries, grand openings and birthdays are all enhanced with customized Shadowpath scripts and performers that complement any occasion.

When NOT producing neat community initiatives or infusing private events with unique arts programming, Shadowpath can be found in high schools and seniors centres with their fun-filled theatre workshops. Students partake in play-wrighting, grant writing and producing sessions, while seniors enjoy improv, drama games, storytelling and play-reading circles.

Shadowpath inspires the community to take a proactive role in the cultural development of their region – whether reading a role, hosting an event or taking a workshop. Shadowpath is building the artistic landscape of York Region and will continue to do so, making scenes by whatever means.
