It’s cold, fluffy, and fun! Living in Canada, we definitely have seen our fair share of snow. From making snowmen to starting snowball fights, snow is a part of every Canadian upbringing and one of the best parts of winter. There are so many great activities that can be enjoyed in the snow and Ontario’s Central Counties has them all!
Cross Country Skiing is a wonderful winter activity that is both a solid workout and a fun time. Come out to Albion Hills Conservation Area to learn how to cross country ski or sharpen your skills! It is a great idea to come out for the weekend with friends and spend the day skiing and the night relaxing. Your legs will need the break! There is no better reward than celebrating with your friends after a long day of skiing. Cross-country skiing is a snowy activity that is a must-try for any winter enthusiast!
Snowshoeing is another fantastic exercise that will let you experience the great outdoors in a more unique way. Trek through the trails of Altona Forest or Petticoat Creek and see nature up close and personal. Snowshoeing is a fun way to travel through the snow and you can get moving surprisingly quickly! Challenge your friends to a snowshoe race and be amazed as you conquer both the snow and the competition. Ontario’s Central Counties has many great spots to give snowshoeing a try. Invite your friends and come spend a weekend becoming a true snow adventurer.
If hiking is more your style, there is no need to wait for summer because a walk through the snow in the winter can be even better! There are great hiking trails all over Ontario’s Central Counties with something for everyone to see. Consider Elgin West Greenway Walk for a snowy adventure through the forests along the Upper East Don River. You can also give Rouge River Headwaters Walk a go and see how many different animals you can spot along the way. Hiking is perfect for getting some fresh air during the stress of the holidays. Invite some friends for a walk through the snow and you’ll see that winter hiking is just as good, or better, than its summer counterpart!
There is endless snowy fun this winter in Ontario’s Central Counties. Spend a snowy weekend cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or go for a nice hike and invite some friends to come join you.
