Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts
What does a jail, a court house, a roller skating rink, a movie house, a fire station and a ladies undergarment factory all have in common? They have all, at one point or another, been housed in what is now the Town Hall 1873 Centre for the Performing Arts.
It was in 1973 that a group of dedicated residents persuaded the Township to lease the abandoned building for 99 years at $1.00 a year and revert it back into a theatre, rather than destroy it for a parking lot. It has been a cultural hub for the Durham region ever since. Be sure to take a road trip to Port Perry to take-in a show!
