Hosting the holidays can be quite a stressful and busy affair. Not only do you have to ensure the house is in order for all your guests, but planning the meal (or multiple meals) is another large order. Rather than a last minute dash to the grocery store this year, try farm fresh holiday fare from a local farm. Your guests will be raving about your delectable feast, and everyone can feel great about it knowing that the ingredients are hand-grown, locally produced, farm-raised, and Ontario fresh. Here’s a list of some great farms in Central Counties to pay a visit to this holiday season.

Durham Farm Fresh

Head out to Durham region to pick up some farm fresh holiday fare this year. The Whitby Farmer’s Market has a wide variety to choose from, ensuring your meal has the best ingredients for the best flavour. Year round produce and meat availability includes beef, fish, pork, poultry, venison, eggs, honey, maple syrup, preserves, and fresh home-baked goodies. Feel good about the meat you are serving, as the animals have had a holistic farm life, fed grain and have had the chance to run around. Your guests will be able to taste the difference!

Strawberry Creek Farm

Newmarket’s family run farm is a great place to pick up fruits and veggies for your holiday meal. Open 6 days a week, with a playground as well, the farm has a delicious selection of fresh produce. Knowing where your food is coming from, and supporting a local small-business is a great way to give back this holiday season, and see a difference in the result of your cooking. You just might be tempted to pick up some pies and baked goods as well!

Inglewood Farmers Market Holiday Bazaar

While not on an actual farm, the Inglewood Famers Market Holiday Bazaar is back this year on December 13th from 10:00am to 3:00pm. Located at the Inglewood Library & Community Centre, the bazaar is a perfect stop for all your holiday shopping, including food and goodies! Browse through handicrafts as well as locally produced farm fare for everyone on your list! Available are winter vegetables, jams, preserves, honey, soups, baked goods, natural beauty products, and handmade jewelry. This one stop shop is the place to find unique gifts and delicious food!

Watson Farms

Located in Bowmanville, Watson Farms is open until December 23rd for any last minute shopping you may need to do. Grab locally grown strawberries, apples, sweet corn, beans, honey, and lots of other Ontario seasonal fare. You’ll be inspired to create in the kitchen and will soon be donning a chef hat!

The Village Market

Located in the Toronto Waldorf School’s campus, the Village Market is open every Saturday from 8:00am – 1:30pm.  With many returning farmers, you’ll have a fresh pick of locally grown, organic vegetables and fruits. Many are bakers as well, with unique and healthy goods to choose from.
You will be motivated to create the best meal yet this year with your haul from farmers markets in Central Counties! Farm fresh holiday fare never sounded so good!
