Summer’s here, and it’s a wonderful time for giving back to your community through fun runs, bike events, marathons, and more. There are countless activities in Ontario for the kinetic individual who wants to get active for a noble cause this summer. Here are just a few up-coming events that you may want to consider this summer.

The Run for Huntington’s Disease

The Huntington Society of Canada is a group that aims to raise awareness of Huntington’s disease, help those afflicted by it, and raise funds for Huntington’s research. One of the ways they accomplish these goals is the Run for Huntington’s disease, the largest run they organize. The run has raised over $256,000 in six years, with proceeds going to the society’s service programs to help those affected by Huntington’s.
This program is a wonderful way to chip in for the fight against this disease, which the group says could be a stepping stone to other neurological disorders such as multiple sclerosis and Parkinson’s.
This run takes place on June 28, 2015. Click here to register.

The MS Bike Event

The MS Bike Tour is a series of bike-riding events that aim to raise money to fight multiple sclerosis. This 24-year event has many locations and dates that you can participate in, making it an easy event to take part in no matter your location.
The MS Society of Canada raises funds to provide services to families who may have a member suffering from the disease. As Canada has the largest concentration of MS sufferers in the world, they must work tirelessly to raise funds and awareness, educate the populace, bolster research, and improve the government and community relations with MS.
You can help them do so and enjoy a scenic bike route while you’re at it by participating in their bike event. While there are multiple events and locations, the event for Toronto takes place on September 20. Click here to register.

The Toronto Waterfront Marathon

The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is an event in which you can run a marathon, half-marathon, or 5k run sponsoring a charity of your choice. This event will make you sweat in the best way by giving you the chance to win prizes and money for the charity you sponsor.
The registration process is easy. Click here to see a list of the available charities that you can choose to raise awareness and money for. Causes such as various diseases, environmentalism, education, and religion are available, so you can run for what you feel the most passionate about. Afterwards, simply register online to begin fundraising until the event.
The event takes place on October 18, 2015.

The Spartan Race

The Spartan Race is an obstacle/race course that travels across Canada throughout the summer. The race is not tied to a specific charity, however, they do have a list of partner charities that you can raise money and awareness for by signing up for the race. Another great thing about The Spartan Race is that they are committed to family fitness. They offer a variety of race difficulties, ensuring that there is a challenging course for all athletes, from junior Spartans to experienced Spartan Race veterans.
The Spartan race comes to Central Counties on July 18/19 at Brimacombe! To register and learn more about the race, visit their site.
