Enjoy Spring in King Township

Spring into action and plan a getaway to the Township of King this spring! Home to city fun and rural charm, this York Region gem of a destination is an ideal spot for a staycation. With the Oak Ridges Moraine sweeping the landscape and adorable small towns, visitors will find a wealth of attractions in the Township of King.

One of the fun places to visit in the Township of King in the spring is Cold Creek Conservation Area. Just outside the community of Nobelton, the conservation park is a significant area for plants and animals within the Humber River Watershed. With varying landscapes, it’s a popular spot for hiking. Plus, Cold Creek has an 18 hole disc golf course. Grab your friends and test your frisbee golf skills on this course!

For those looking to do some small town exploring, head to downtown Schomberg! This adorable historic small town is located just south of Highway 9 and full of hidden gems. A stroll down Main Street Schomberg will uncover murals and a small parkette along the river. Plus, the street is lined with historic homes and buildings.

Downtown Schomberg is also bursting with incredible shops. Pop into Vintage Peony for unique and crafty home décor. For fantastic flowers and luxurious gift ideas, visit De Rose Designs. Along with interesting shops, downtown Schomberg boasts a number of places to grab some fuel for your spring adventures! If you’re visiting in the morning or in need of a light meal, pop into the colourful and quirky Grackle Coffee. This coffee shop prides itself on exceptional coffee as well as partnering with Ontario brands to bring its guests fabulous local goods.

For classic pub fare that kicks it up a notch, enjoy lunch or dinner at the Schomberg Pub. Set in a historic building, each dining space has its own personality. Craft Kitchen is the place to go for elevated dishes and cocktails. At Port Soirée you’ll find fine dining in a cozy space and European inspired fare with local ingredients.

For over 80 years Pine Farm Orchards has been a go-to spot for apple picking in King City. But you don’t have to wait until summer to visit! A spring visit to Pine Farm Orchards is just what the doctor ordered! The scenic farm hugs the Oak Ridges Moraine and has trail access right across the street. Pop in to grab some fresh baked goods or a bite to eat in their market & shop. There’s even outdoor seating with fire pits to soak in the spring sun while indulging in some hot apple cider.

When the rain falls this spring dodge the drops and head to King Heritage & Cultural Centre. The Centre is a local history museum that’s home to over 8,000 artifacts, art, and hosts a number of events throughout the year. Along with browsing the exhibits, visitors can literally step back in time through a number of historic buildings. On the museum’s property are four structures from the Township of King’s past. There’s an old schoolhouse, church, temperance hall and the old King railway station.

Spring marks the opening of the golf season and the Township of King is home to two premier golf courses. Enjoy a round at the stunning Nobelton Lakes Golf Club, with its 27 holes. Or reserve a tee time at Cardinal Golf Club. Featuring four unique 18 hour courses, Cardinal has a course to suit everyone’s skill level. In addition, Cardinal features a driving range and challenging 18 hole mini-putt!

Spring showers bring fabulous flowers! And Country Cut Flower is a must stop on the list of things to do in the Township of King in spring! This flower market and farm offers the best spring activity, cut-your-own flowers. Tulips and daffodils bloom in April and May, making for a beautiful bouquet and take-home souvenir!

Families will love a visit to Round the Bend Farm! This small working family farm is home to a number of farm animals and a market. Spring is a hopping good time to visit as plenty of barn babies are being born. Swing by the farm to meet the new sheep, goat, and rabbit babies. In addition, scattered around the farm are fun interactive games that the kids can get hands on with. And don’t forget to pop by the market for some fresh goods like honey, pies, and more!

One of the sweetest things to do this spring in the Township of King is visit Pioneer Honey! This honey farm features a hive shop bursting with bee products. Inside you’ll find everything from honey to beeswax candles. Along with stocking up on their awesome honey, the staff are always eager to share their knowledge on how you can protect bees and other interesting bee facts!

A wonderful stop on your spring tour should be Holland Marsh Wineries. Their unique environment, in the Holland Marsh, creates wines unlike others in Ontario. Stop in to enjoy a wine tasting that includes a charcuterie board and tour. Or grab their wood fired oven margherita pizza, pair it with a glass of Pinot Grigio, and soak in the sun on their patio.

Perks of a visit to the Township of King are all the incredible restaurants! Set in a 150 year old building, LOCALE restaurant and bar is the perfect blend of historic charm and sophistication. LOCALE serves Italian cuisine made from fresh ingredients that pairs well with their notable wine list.

For a more relaxed vibe, enjoy a meal at The Roost Café. Also located in a century home, Roost features a stunning patio that’s the perfect place to eat on a beautiful spring day. April 28 – Public Land Street Patios are being installed at 307 on Main Café, Leonardo’s Pizzeria & Smokehouse, and Grackle Coffee Company.

April 29 & June 10 – The Four Seasons Market

May 20 – Storytime with Ducklings at Heart in Home on Main Street Schomberg (10am-12pm). Local Author Carolyn j Morris will be visiting with her baby ducklings and baby chicks as well as reading a book from her collection.

May 22 – Nobleton Victoria Day Fair and Fireworks

May 25-28 – Schomberg Agricultural Fair

June 10 – Origin Smoothies at Heart in Home on Main Street Schomberg with some yummy smoothies and treats!
