Our blog is chock full of great ideas for fun things to see and do in York Durham and Headwaters. We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

Living in Canada has a lot of perks… one of them is not the excessively long winters. But hey, at least if we’re going to have to deal with the cold we can justify pampering ourselves a little bit to get something good out of it!

So if you’re looking for a nice little getaway this season to rest and relax, these spots in York-Durham-Headwaters are sure to add a little heat to your winter! They all offer something a little different, depending on the type of vacation you enjoy. For me, that’s anything with a spa and no toddler demanding snacks upon every turn. It’s the simple things really…

Millcroft Inn & Spa

Millcroft

If you’ve never been to an outdoor hot spring, you’re really missing out! But fear not, Millcroft Inn & Spa is here to save the day. Hot Spring Pools Day Passes are included in your overnight stay, or with any spa treatment(s) totalling more than $100. Passes may be purchased for $70 per person, or $35 with the purchase of a spa treatment under $100. But trust me, you’re going to want the whole experience: book an overnight stay, a couples massage, and dive into the amazingness that is outdoor hot springs. Additionally to the hot springs pools are a polar plunge pool, heated pools, steam room, and cedar sauna. It’s a winter paradise, people!

If you’re feeling extra romantic and choose to book the Millcroft Inn for a Valentine’s Day getaway with your loved one, be sure to check out the special prix fixe Valentine’s Menu served in the Headwaters Restaurant, available on February 14th and 15th for $115/person.

Hockley Valley Resort

For the more adventurous couple, check out Hockley Valley Resort for your winter getaway. This beautiful resort not only features relaxing rooms and a luxurious spa, but also offers the ability to ski or snowboard on their slopes! From January 5-March 12, 2020, you can book their Stay & Ski Getaway which includes 1-night accommodation in a resort room, full buffet breakfast, and lift tickets for the day of arrival or departure depending on what you’d prefer. Available from $299 per night.

If it were me, I’d tip off my husband to booking 2 nights and get both experiences in one shot: the day of activity with skiing/snowboarding, followed by a day of relaxing in the spa. Their Couple’s Retreat packages boasts a side by side relaxation massage, luxurious scalp treatment, and organic foot scrub, followed by lunch and champagne. Now that’s what I call a TREAT!

Nestleton Waters Inn

Nestleton Waters Inn

For those who love the charm of a bed & breakfast but enjoy having the space of a larger accommodation, this 96-acre farm inn may be for you! Nestleton Waters Inn With the option for booking one of eight suites in the main Estate (includes your own ensuite bathroom) that are themed from around the world, you can opt for a more hotel-esque experience, or go for more of a true B&B feel with the Carriage House offered that share 2 suites, one bathroom in a second-floor cottage.

Nearby attractions include shopping in Port Perry’s Victorian-style boutiques, plus museums, theatres, spas and restaurants. Depending on the time of year you visit, there are also several nearby golf courses (how romantic!) and a farmers’ market to shop at.
