Meet the Maker: Paul Zummach

Posted : July 26, 2018

Our blog is chock full of great ideas for fun things to see and do in York Durham and Headwaters. We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

Every day is a new adventure for Paul Zummach.

In the mornings, Paul carefully inspects each ride in his area, performing daily maintenance with diligence and care. He climbs the coasters to make sure they are in good working order for park guests. Then in the afternoons, Paul does repairs and builds spare parts in the workshop. At the end of the day, Paul takes great satisfaction in knowing that park guests are having fun on the rides because of his hard work.

A former millwright, Paul always enjoyed visiting Canada’s Wonderland. When the ride mechanic position opened up, he jumped at the chance to apply. Mechanically-minded, Paul enjoys taking things apart and putting them back together again. In fact, when he’s not at work, Paul is often out on his motorcycle, dirt bike or snowmobile.

Believe it or not, Paul is afraid of heights! Despite that, he climbs the coasters every day to make sure they are in good shape for park guests. His favourite ride of all is Behemoth. He says it’s smooth, it’s fast and it’s exhilarating how Behemoth soars above its sister ride, Leviathan.

In 2018, Paul predicts guests will be eager to try Lumberjack and Flying Canoes – Canada’s Wonderland’s newest rides. The exhilarating Lumberjack has two swinging axe pendulums that propel guests into the sky for serious thrills! For young families, Flying Canoes is a sweet, interactive ride that lets guests steer their own magical canoe.

“It’s exciting to work at Canada’s Wonderland,” Paul says with a grin. “Every day is a walk in the park.”

This summer, come check out the new rides – and revisit your favourites – at Canada’s Wonderland! While you’re there, you’ll enjoy the world-famous rides and sample delicious fare prepared by park chef, Dilip Attygalla. And families take note – the KidZville KidZfest celebration takes place between July 28 – August 5. Think: live entertainment, dance parties, foam pits and visits from special characters like Paw Patrol, Angelina Ballerina, Barney and more!
