May is the month where we can finally start to enjoy the warmer weather. Everyone looks forward to kicking back and relaxing with friends and family during the Victoria Day long weekend. After all, the long weekend is the official un-official start to summer, with many people heading up to their cottages for the first time in a long time. The long weekend provides the perfect opportunity to plan a weekend getaway for the family. However, you don’t need to travel far to get the best experience. In Ontario’s Central Counties, a weekend getaway is close to home!

Here are 3 weekend getaways in Ontario Central Counties that the whole family can enjoy:

  1. The Briars Resort and Spa

The Briars Resort and Spa is located on the southern shores of Lake Simcoe and is just a short drive from Toronto. Here you can stay in your own lakeside cottage for the weekend. Whether you want to relax or take in a game of golf, there are many indoor and outdoor recreational activities to choose from. If you want to treat mom for Mother’s Day, you can send her to the spa for some pampering.

  1. Canada’s Wonderland

Head to Canada’s Premier Amusement Park located in Vaughan for a weekend getaway filled with excitement and all day fun for the whole family. There are a number of places to stay around the park, so you don’t have to cram everything into one day!

  1. Lake Scugog

The long weekend isn’t complete without some time spent near a lake. Head to Lake Scugog in Port Perry for a weekend getaway where there is plenty to see and do, including boating and fishing. If you like wine then you’ll want to check out Ocala Winery to try some locally made wine. For local and fresh produce, there is the Port Perry Farmers’ Market and for something the kids will enjoy, there is the Northwood Zoo and Animal Sanctuary.
