Apple picking, to some, is synonymous with the start of Fall! Start your own tradition of fall family fun with a trip to Applewood Farm Winery. Hand pick your own apples and find that perfect pumpkin, while enjoying the farm fresh air. Wagon rides, farm animals, a corn maze AND a pumpkin patch are sure to be a hit with the young ones. And for the adults, head on in to the winery and check out their selection of award-winning fruit wine, ciders and meads. Pack a lunch or grab a bite to eat from the food truck on site (weekends only) and pause for a moment, in their picnic area, before heading on to your next stop.
Just down the road is Lionel’s Farm, a petting zoo with a wide variety of animals, including sheep, goats, deer, pigs, cow, alpaca, llamas, rabbits, and chickens, that you can feed and touch during your visit. Cut up an apple, or two, from your morning’s picks, and you will, literally, have the animals eating right out of the palm of your hands! Pony rides are also available on weekends.
Your next stop is at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area where you can enjoy a leisurely family hike through the forest’s trails surrounded by the glorious changing colours of Fall. Treetop Trekking, offering fun for all ages, is also conveniently located within this conservation area. Younger kids can climb from treehouse to treehouse inside Treewalk Village while the older ones can try out the Discovery Kids Courses, complete with mini ziplines, bridges, balancing logs and more. Adult accompaniment is required. Whatever you choose, appreciate your time outdoors – Ontario’s long winter is just around the corner!
