Our blog is chock full of great ideas for fun things to see and do in York Durham and Headwaters. We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

If you’re looking for a fun day out with the kids, York Region has got you covered!

For the little tykes, head to LEGOLAND Discovery Centre, the ultimate indoor LEGO® playground, specifically designed for 3- to 10-year-old kids. Featuring over two million LEGO® bricks, families can enjoy hours of building, creating and playing. Nearby you’ll also find Reptilia Vaughan, Canada’s flagship, premiere reptile zoo facility with 25,000 square feet of indoor exhibits and over 250 species of reptiles, amphibians, and arachnids from all around the world. Children and adults of all ages will enjoy learning more about these fascinating creatures with a self-guided tour of the facility and by attending one of their scheduled live shows or animal feedings.  Then let them bounce around at one of the indoor trampoline parks – Skyzone Vaughan or Air Riderz with locations in both Aurora or Vaughan. Here they will work up a sweat as they bounce to their heart’s content and hopefully tire themselves out in the process. Parents and older kids don’t need to stand idly by though… everyone will enjoy bouncing off the walls, literally!

For some outdoor fun, bundle up the kids and head to Treetop Trekking Treewalk Village, in Stouffville, which is staying open all winter season for the first time! This two-hour experience will get your feet moving and your imagination flowing as you travel from tree-house to tree-house along wooden bridges and net-walkways, then make your way down to the ground on slides and ramps. No minimum age or height is required; however, children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bringing it back indoors, how about giving rock-climbing a try at Hub Climbing Markham? This 20,000 square foot indoor climbing gym includes boulder archways, a 23-foot-tall free bouldering challenge, over a foam pit, and 22 roped climbing routes suitable for kids and adults. If you’re new to rock climbing, no worries, orientation sessions are mandatory for inexperienced climbers. Learn all about what to expect for your first visit here.

Or perhaps a little less strenuous activity is what you’re after. Then check out Putting Edge Vaughan for some glow-in-the-dark fun with a round of miniature golf and/or their interactive arcade games zone. Grab a package of glow stick bracelets or necklaces before heading out, then slap them on when you arrive, for an enhanced glow in the dark effect! Note: Putting Edge is recommended for kids 8 and up.

Whatever you decide, you’re bound to work up an appetite. Make sure to include a stop at a local restaurant for a bite to eat before calling it a day. Full tummies and tired kiddos hopefully equals a quiet drive home!
