If you’re looking to visit a farm, York Region probably doesn’t come to mind first, but, it should!
Did you know that York Region is home to over 700 farms, with some of these being open to the public? And the York Farm Fresh Association has made visiting York’s farms and farmers’ markets super easy with the their York Farm Fresh Guide Map, highlighting over 40 of these, along with some Food and Fair events taking place in York this summer and fall. So, if you don’t know where to start, download a copy of the map and hit the road for some farm fresh goodness. And if you’re feeling lucky, grab a copy of their Passport to Fresh and collect stamps along the way for a chance to win a Thanksgiving Harvest Basket, and some monthly prize draws too. The more farms you visited, the greater your chances of winning. If you’re extra ambitious, how about visiting all 33!
For a more structured visit, the self-guided Field to Table Farm Tour, on August 17th, 2019 in Georgina, is a great opportunity to stop in at a number of working farms all in one day! Enjoy tours, samples and educational experiences at the various stops, learning first-hand about the agricultural history in the region. Plus, you’ll get to stock up on fresh veggies and tasty treats along the way. And since you’re already in Georgina, a scenic drive along the shores of Lake Simcoe is in order. Or plan ahead, and make it a weekend adventure with an overnight stay at Ramada Jackson’s Point and spend the next day discovering Georgina.
