Head to Georgina for this cozy escape – stay for the day or extend it into an overnight.
Check into The Briars Resort and stay in one of their Lakeside cottage rooms, complete with fireplace, for a warm & wintery retreat. But, if you’re only staying for the day, then be sure to book yourself a couple’s aromatherapy massage at The Briars Spa followed by a relaxing swim, or sweat it out in the sauna… either way, your bodies will thank you. Then head to Lake Simcoe Arms for some comfort, authentic British pub fare, before completing your road trip to Georgina with a stop at the Georgina Arts Centre and Gallery. Stroll through their gift shop for some unique find from local artisans.
Now, for those of you staying the night, you might want to retreat to your room, post-massage, for an afternoon snooze. Make the best of this wintery escape and explore the grounds on ski or snowshoe, or grab a toboggan and sled down ‘The Mount’. If you’re feeling more adventurous, head to The ROC for some exhilarating snow-tubing fun. Then end the night with a bonfire and, perhaps, a hot chocolate, in hand, for that extra cozy feeling.
Start day two with a truly Canadian winter experience – ice fishing*! Lake Simcoe has been dubbed the ‘ice fishing capital of Canada’ and is home to some of the best ice fishing for perch and whitefish. A number of ice hut operators are available along the Georgina shores of Lake Simcoe, with most providing transportation to and from the huts, along with bait and tackle. Spend the day making memories inside the warmth and comfort of the ice hut. When you’re ready to call it a day, return to the shore and refuel at The Boondocks Eatery, taking in a final view of Lake Simcoe, before hitting the road for home.
*Note, a valid fishing license is required.
