Start your day with a taste and tour at Downey’s Estate Winery. Located on 215 acres of rolling farmland, you can sample Downey’s award-winning fruit and vineyard wines in the Tasting Room. Be sure to try Downey’s Autumn Pear fruit wine and Baco Noir – both award winners. Downey’s is also back in the hard cider game, so be sure to pick up a couple of cans while you’re there! Also on-site is Downey’s Farm Market with no shortage of locally made goodies including smokes sausages, fine cheeses, as well as Downey’s famous homemade doughnuts and fresh hand-made fudge.
Spirit Tree Estate Cidery, should be next on the list. The craft cidery features a bakery, kitchen, and farm store offering guests the best local products, produce and gastronomic delights. Get a behind-the-scene look at how cider is made before taking some time to wander the orchards and take in the fresh country air. Visit on Saturday or Sunday for a behind-the-scene tour. One-hour guided tours are offered at 2:00 p.m. for $10 per person, which includes a guided cider tasting. They also make delicious wood-fired pizzas that can be enjoyed in-house or on the road.
Round out your day with dinner and a local pint of craft beer or cider on the patio of the The Busholme Inn. This restaurant and pub’s welcoming staff will make you feel at home as much as the unique menu of comfort food and the patio overlooking the Main Street of Erin.
Headwaters accommodations are as full of character as the region itself. Experience a quiet bed and breakfast at Forks of the Credit Inn, one of the area’s most loved heritage buildings (once a post office, general store, and speakeasy)! A scenic 15-minute drive north, the Inn’s blend of rural serenity and bright, airy rooms offers comfortable accommodations, and local innkeeper info about what to see, where to go, and what to eat and drink.
