Bundle up and get ready for a day of some good, old-fashioned, outdoor winter fun – whether it be snowtubing, skating, snowshoeing or skiing, York Region has got the spot for you!
If you’re a fan of snowtubing, head to Georgina’s The ROC for a morning of exhilarating fun sliding down the slopes of their snow tube hill. For younger kids, try out the free toboggan hill and ice-skating rink adjacent to the tube park – be sure to pack your skates and a sled!
Want to tackle your morning at a slower speed, head to King City’s Cold Creek Conservation Area and take to their trails. Cross-country skis and snowshoe rentals are available, on-site, to make your way through their groomed, scenic trails, and with 6.6km of trails, all skill levels are welcomed. Now if you’re more of a downhill skier, then Uplands Ski Club is the place for you. Uplands Ski Club offers a great environment for beginners of all ages. Or take a stab at snowboarding and enjoy the challenge in a non-threatening atmosphere!
Should skating be more up your alley, then head to Richmond Green Skate Trail, for a leisurely, outdoor skate through their 250-metre looped trail in a natural setting. And best of all, the trail is open day and night, so make it extra special and come for an evening skate under the starlit sky, complete with music pumping through the trees.
Now, if you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, perhaps fat-biking might be the outdoor activity for you, and thanks to Twilight Forest, fat-biking in York Region just got a whole lot easier! Twilight Forest offers fat-bike rentals AND delivers them to you at the York Regional Forest, so it’s all ready to go when you arrive. Can’t get much easier than that, now can it?
Whatever you decide, make sure to dress warmly – layers are your friend – and keep hydrated. You’ll work up an appetite, so consider a stop to eat at one of the local restaurants before making your way back home.
