Summer is finally here and while it may still look a little different, getting out and enjoying delicious food, great weather, with good company, doesn’t have to.
Plan for a picnic in the park on a gorgeous sunny day. Pack a blanket, and a cooler with some cold refreshments, maybe a book, and we’ll direct you to a couple of perfect spots to fill up your picnic basket and where to sit down to enjoy it. Inviting a few friends and/or family is optional; some alone ‘me time’ sounds pretty tempting!
Newmarket is where you’re headed, and historic Main Street is the place to start. If you’re the grazing type, try a Charcuterie Box from Hungry Brew Hops, Newmarket’s first gastropub, who’s mantra is “to serve really good, honest food with some really good, craft beer.” And that they do! We recommend ordering ahead so your box is ready for you when you arrive. You can choose from a mini box just for you, or a medium or large to enjoy with company.

Just off Main Street, you’ll find Ground Burger Bar and if you’re a fan of burgers, you have to try them out. You can build your burger the way you want it, or order one of their mouth-watering creations. Pair that with a side of fries or sweet potato wedges, and your tummy will thank you. Check out their menu now and start planning for that perfect day.

Now, don’t forget about dessert, and Newmarket’s got the perfect stop for that too. If you haven’t been to The Maids’ Cottage before, you will want to pick up their award-winning buttertarts. They’re so good! They’ve also got a lunch menu and other dessert items that you might prefer. Once you’ve got what you need, head down the street to Fairy Lake Park, an urban oasis in the heart of historic downtown Newmarket, to find that perfect spot. Or, if you’d rather enjoy an adult beverage with your meal, make your way to Market Brewing Company, just a short drive away. They’re patio is open, with live music every Friday night, and Tuesday Trivia nights weekly on the patio. Top summer brews are Kitchen Lunch Cream Ale, Bes Lite and the return of their Bear Cub Session IPA. Food trucks are normally on site and outside food is permitted.
