Summer is over, but there’s no reason to “wine” about it – especially when you can escape to the vineyards of York! Escape for the day with a mini road trip to the town of Whitchurch-Stouffville, just a short drive north of Toronto.
Start this tour with a stop at Gallucci Winery, where you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to a Tuscany villa as you drive onto the property. Enjoy a tasting flight of their award-winning wines as you sit back on their picturesque terrace overlooking the vines. Willow Springs Winery, situated atop of the Oakridges Morraine, is your next stop. Their 11-acre vineyard produce world-class, award-winning VQA red, white and Ice wines. Sample a wine or two, responsibly, and be sure to peruse their gift store with a selection of handcrafted décor and local goodies. Finish off this mini winery tour at Applewood Farm and Winery. Take a wagon ride into their apple orchards – pick some apples to take home or simply enjoy the fresh air. Visit the winery before heading out, and pick up a bottle of one of their wines, ciders or meades, available only on site.
Time to grab a bite to eat, and Stouffville does not disappoint. The Smokery Kitchen & Bar or Fishbone Bistro will have your mouth watering as you open their menus. Then work that delicious food off with a hike through the trails at Bruce’s Mill Conservation Area or venture off the ground with a trek through the trees at Treetop Trekking Stouffville. Zip Line & Aerial Game Treks is their most popular activity, with suspended bridges, Tarzan swings, swinging logs, cable traverses, and zip lines, to keep you moving from tree to tree. Consider one of their Night Trek dates and discover the trails under the starry skies!
