About Matsu Jewellery
Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, Jennifer Shigetomi – the creative force behind Matsu- initially pursued an education in fine arts at the Ontario College of Art and Design.
Although the four years at OCAD fuelled her artistic drive, she realized she had a technical side that needed an outlet. After exploring evening courses in wax carving for jewellery, Jennifer discovered that she had found a medium that balanced her artistry and technique interests. She enrolled in the three-year goldsmith program at George Brown College in Toronto.
Alongside business partner and sister, Lisa, Matsu Jewellery set up their first studio/showroom in 1996. High demand and space issues prompted the sister team to relocate their working studio to a Toronto storefront location, where they operated Matsu from October 2004 to September 2021.
In 2014, Matsu opened a second location, Matsu North, in the town of Newmarket. Starting September 2021, this location has become Matsu Jewellery’s primary showroom, workshop, and office.
