Q: Hoser, tell us a bit aboot yourself. What makes you such a passionate traveler of YDH?

Hoser: Well, eh, I’ve always been a bit of a wanderer. Sure, my dam is my pride and joy, but YDH is just full of beauty and adventure. From the wetlands to the rolling hills, there’s always somethin’ new to explore. Plus, you can’t beat the poutine and maple syrup around here—keeps a beaver’s energy up for all the giv’r I do!

Q: Speaking of maple syrup, we hear you’re quite the aficionado. Any favourites?

Hoser: Oh, you betcha! I’m all aboot Pefferlaw Creek Farms‘ Bourbon Barrel syrup. There’s nothing quite like it. But when I’m near Elliott Tree Farm, their syrup always hits the spot. I’ll drizzle it on my logs while I chew—a little gourmet touch, eh?

Q: We also hear you’re a big fan of poutine. Where do you get your fix?

Hoser: Oh, poutine is like a dam for the soul! My absolute favourite is from Cookshop Kitchen in Georgina. It’s served out of a trailer in the Keswick Home Hardware parking lot. Does it get more Canadian than that? It’s like a warm hug in the middle of winter.

Q: How do you like to stay active in the winter months?

Hoser: I’m all aboot pond hockey, eh! You’ll find me at Island Lake Conservation Area or Elgin Pond in Uxbridge. And while it’s not technically pond hockey, the skating at Newmarket River Commons is top-notch. I can paddle there by river, and after a good skate, I like to sit by Fairy Lake and reflect. Nothing beats a quiet moment by the water.

Q: Is there anything in YDH you haven’t tried yet but really want to?

Hoser: Oh, snow tubing at The ROC or Lakeridge is definitely on my bucket list! It looks like such a rush. I’m all aboot trying new things, eh, and flying down a hill on a tube seems like the ultimate winter adventure.

Q: When you’re looking to getaway, where do you like to stay?

Hoser: Birchwood Globe Glamping is like a little slice of heaven it reminds me of my dam. The cozy globe dining at Hockley Valley Resort makes me feel right at home too. And you can’t forget Adamo Estate Winery next door—their wine is perfect for unwinding after a long day. If I’m feeling a bit more Canadian, I’ll grab a Hillbilly Export from Caledon Hills Brewing. It reminds me of my roots, eh.

Q: Any strong opinions about Canadian treats?

Hoser: Oh, don’t even get me started on BeaverTails. The name alone makes my stomach turn. It’s a Canadian treat, sure, but as an actual beaver, it’s a hard pass from me. I’ll stick to my maple syrup and poutine, thanks!

Q: Finally, what do you love most about being a champion for YDH tourism?

Hoser: I love showing people how much there is to see and do here. YDH isn’t just a place to visit; it’s a place to fall in love with. From the food to the landscapes to the amazing people, it’s the best part of Canada, eh. Plus, it gives me a chance to spread the word aboot my favourite places and share a little Canadian spirit with everyone.
