We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

Ah, February. The frigid temperatures we endure at this time of the year aren’t so bad. After all, you get to snuggle close to your loved one on Valentine’s Day to keep warm. But what to do this year that you haven’t done before? Dinner and a movie is so cliché, so run-of-the mill. We understand: your sweetheart deserves something extraordinary. Look no further than York Durham Headwaters this year for your unforgettable Valentine’s Day, and get inspired with these romantic ideas to bring you and your special someone closer together.

Get a Luxurious Couple’s Massage

Couples Massage

Complete and utter pampering is a dream-come-true on any day of the year. At the Uxbridge Manor and Day Spa, the Zen-like sanctuary and tranquil atmosphere is the perfect place to slough off the stress of your busy life, relax, and re-centre yourself.

This Valentine’s Day, make getting pampered a luxury for two. Spend a day of peace and perfection experiencing a couple’s massage. Let go of the cares and concerns that weigh you and your partner down, and turn your attention to each other to reconnect.

Are you first timers to couple’s massages? Try the Uxbridge Manor and Spa’s Share the Experience package, which is “an ideal treatment that all couples can experience together. Indulge your loved one with an afternoon or evening of unsurpassed luxury and pampering,” with a Side by Side Mystic Massage and a Side by Side Foot to Go treatment.

Or there is the ultra-luxurious Time for Us couple’s package. Uxbridge Manor and Spa says, “Allow us to set the mood for you and that special someone, with the perfect appetizer for a relaxing evening. Relax side-by-side in a romantic setting as two therapists perform a relaxation massage. You will then lay side-by side for an oxygenating detoxifying facial for him and a rebalancing facial for her.”

Catch a live performance

Couple at Theatre

We know we said dinner and a movie is run-of-the mill. But dinner and live theatre is something else altogether. The energy of the performers combined with the energy of the audience is something that can’t be replicated on the big screen.

Make your Valentine’s Day a day to remember by catching a live performance at the Flato Markham Theatre. Since 1985, this community theatre has been bringing audiences local and school-based theatre productions in an effort to support the advancement of performing arts and drama.

This February, the Markham Little Theatre troupe will be taking the stage to perform The Mousetrap, an Agatha Christie mystery. Spend an evening cuddled close to your sweetheart as you take in this crowd-pleaser and try to figure out “whodunnit.”

Romance and wine? Yes, please!

Wine tasting

Like craft beer, craft and small-scale wineries are becoming de rigueur for wine lovers. In York Durham Headwaters, we have some wonderful winemakers that are creating wines which can compete on a national and even (dare we suggest?) an international stage.

One such winery is Holland Marsh in Newmarket. It is a family-run operation, which has been three generations in the making, going back to the old country of Armenia. Today, the winery offers a wonderful synthesis of sharing the winemaking experience with fellow wine enthusiasts, and bringing an Eastern European flavour to the wine community in Ontario.

This Valentine’s Day, Holland Marsh Wineries is hosting a tour and tasting event to get your romantic juices flowing. Tour the facilities with your special someone to learn all about the wine making process. Afterwards, you will sample five of Holland Marsh’s hand-crafted wines—including several select and reserve offerings—which will be paired with a unique food item. Wine and food with your sweetheart? Now that’s what we call a perfect pairing.
