The Junior Golfers of Central Counties

There is a great amount of talent in the junior ranks in Central Counties and many of these kids are making a name for themselves in the junior golf tournament circuits at the local, provincial and national levels. Here are a few of names that you should keep an eye on as they keep popping up on tournament leaderboards of important junior events.

Junior Girls on the rise:
At the 2014 Canadian Junior Girls Championship held recently at the Thornhill Golf & CC Thornhill’s own Selena Costabile finished on the podium capturing 3rd place in our national championship. Five girls from the region finished in the top 10 in the Ontario Junior Girls Championships: Monet Chun (T2) of the Summit G&CC; Claire Hernandez (T6) and Eunice Hong (T10) from Ladies Golf Club of Toronto; Station Creek’s Jessica Ip (8) and Crystina Ketsos (9) of York Downs. Constabile, Chun, Kertsos, Hernandez and Ip are all ranked in the top 10 in the Golf Association of Ontario’s (GAO) U19 Order of Merit. Constabile is also on Golf Canada’s CN Future Links Top 10 list. The Canadian Junior Golf Association (CJGA) currently has three regional girls ranked in their in the top 10: Genevieve Stelmacovich (Holland Landing), Kelsey Fuchs (Uxbridge) and Olivia Trieu (Richmond Hill).
 
Junior Boys on the rise:
Vaughan’s Tony Gil posted a runner-up finish at the Canadian Junior Boys Championships. Tony is currently holding down the #1 position on Golf Canada’s CN Future Links Top 10 list. He also owns the top spot on both the GAO’s Junior and Juvenile Boys Order of Merit lists. Also in the GAO U19 top 10 list are: Unionville’s Maxwell Sear, Whitby’s Spencer Dobbs and Sutton’s Carter Simon (Simon is a member of the Golf Canada development team). Dobb’s finished runner-up in the Ontario Junior Match Play championships.
