Driving legend and Canadian Motorsport Hall of Famer Ron Fellows is a key player in the thriving York Durham Headwaters (YDH) racing scene. Ron is passionate about preserving the Canadian Tire Motorsport Park (CTMP) racetrack, and believes nothing beats the sights, sounds and energy of a car race.
“Racing chose me,” says Ron of his career. Ron’s aunt and uncle took him to his first Formula 1 event when he was 11. He remembers being fascinated by the energy surrounding the car race. “It was magic, and I wanted to get on the other side of the fence.”
Ron’s determination drove him to build a successful professional racing career, earning him 6 NASCAR victories and the respect of his peers and large fan base.
Today as co-owner of the CTMP, Ron is dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the track, which was originally built in 1961. “It’s challenging with long, fast corners,” says Ron. “Drivers love it – myself included!”
Today, Ron is involved in engaging youth in motorsport. Over the past 16 years, he has been working with kids ages 9 and up to compete on kart-specific tracks both at CTMP and at the Ron Fellows Performance Driving school, located near Las Vegas, Nevada.
Ron shares his passion for racing with his wife Lynda and their three grown children Lyndsay, Sam and Patrick. Both Lynda and Sam Fellows are heavily involved in the CTMP racetrack.
