Spoiler alert: things are getting heckin’ expensive these days! That’s why we have officially designated this summer to be the Summer of Saving… it is now a thing; spread the word! You’re working hard this summer to cut back and to make your dollar go farther. That’s why we think you deserve a cheat day in York Durham Headwaters. Our businesses and attractions are working hard along with you, providing opportunities and special deals that will allow you to stretch your dollar. It may be the Summer of Saving, but that doesn’t mean you have to give up the things you love.

For your cheat day from your Summer of Saving, we suggest Canada’s Wonderland. This premier amusement park in Vaughan offers hair-raising rides, world-class and record-holding coasters, mouthwatering food and treats, and endless entertainment to suit all ages and interests. For so many of us who grew up in and around YDH, Wonderland is an annual can’t-miss tradition. And for those of us who are new to the region, the country, or who are visiting from abroad, Wonderland is a must-do activity for creating those lifelong memories with friends, family and loved ones. Times may be tough on the old wallet this summer, but Wonderland has developed options to help you save on admission, food, and more—and we have a few tips of our own, too.

What’s on this summer at Canada’s Wonderland

Wonderland Fireworks

Fantastic Fireworks – Nothing says summer like a good fireworks show, and Canada’s Wonderland has always been a leader in doing fireworks right. This summer season, on June 30th, July 1st, August 4th and September 1st, Wonderland will present its spectacular fireworks display when the park closes at 10 p.m. Each show is unique, custom-designed and set to an original soundtrack that can only be found here. For approximately 15 minutes and from multiple viewing points throughout the park, you will experience more than 6,000 colourful explosions reaching heights of over 800 feet above the park skyline and the iconic Wonder Mountain.

KidZfest – We love ’em from their noses to their toeses, but kids don’t understand what the Summer of Saving is all about. They just want to have fun. Thankfully, from July 13th to 28th, you can give your wee ones a break from “cutting back” and give them something super awesome to do. KidZfest is a wild party just for kids where they can meet their favourite TV characters, groove to dance parties, experience music, live entertainment and more. And even though the fun is designed for kids, we won’t tell anyone that you the grown-ups have had a blast, too—your secret is safe with us.

Celebration Canada – Join Canada’s Wonderland from June 28th to July 7th in celebrating the nation’s birthday with live music, authentic Canadian food, street performers and more. This is the biggest Canada Day celebration in the GTA, which includes two nights of fireworks. Live entertainment will take the stage every day, with traditional Indigenous performers and street performers roaming the festival. What better way is there to celebrate Canada than at Canada’s favourite amusement park?

Canada's Wonderland

New Waterpark Feature: Moosehorn Falls – Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be propelled down a giant boomerang water slide at racing speed? (…Or is that just us?) Whether you have or haven’t, we bet you’re wondering now. Experience it for yourself with Wonderland’s latest attraction, Moosehorn Falls. Climb aboard this new raft adventure and travel down a rushing river cascade full of twists, turns and drops, before being launched to the summit of a zero-gravity, 10-metre wall! This new water slide is inspired by waterfalls on the Broad River along the Moosehorn Trail in Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, within the UNESCO-designated Fundy Biosphere Region. Who knew getting wet and wild this summer could be so patriotic?

Now that we’ve got you all excited to enjoy your cheat day, here are some of the ways Canada’s Wonderland is helping you to stick to your Summer of Saving, without depriving yourself of all the joy that makes summer so special.

Special Admission Options

People on Rollercoaster

Your Summer of Saving begins with a season’s pass, of course. Starting at $99, you can have unlimited daytime visits to the park in summer and fall, which means unlimited fun (and unlimited cheat days, may we add). An exclusive perk for season’s pass holders is the Bring-A-Friend ticket. For just $29.99 each, and the ability to purchase up to six tickets, you can spread the love, the fun and the summer savings to your friends. Sharing is caring, after all.

If you are planning on visiting for just one day, then you can save by buying your day ticket online in advance for $44.99. That’s a savings of $40 off the price of paying for your ticket at the gate! Or, go for the Funday Bundle, a package which includes free parking and all-day dining as frequently as every 90 minutes—because let’s face it: having that much fun sure does work up an appetite.

Looking for thrills in the PM? Check out the After 4pm ticket, where you can visit later and save. From $34.99, you’re saving $50 off the cost of admission at the gate. There’s nothing like Wonderland at night!

Bring Your Own Meals and Drinks

Pull up a chair, and let’s have a little chat. As the writer of this post, I’m going to get a bit personal and share one of my favourite memories from Canada’s Wonderland. You see, I’ve been coming to the park as long as I can remember. In fact, Wonderland and I share our debut year of 1981! Here’s the memory of Wonderland that I cherish most: After a morning of racing around the park from ride to ride with my younger sister (our parents scurrying madly behind us to keep up) we’d leave the park at noon for a little lunch break, fetch our prepacked cooler from the car (the brown, two-toned Styrofoam one straight out of the eighties), and have a relaxing picnic lunch on the grass outside the gate. Mom’s homemade sandwiches, cut up fruit and veg, chocolate chunk granola bars and refreshing drink boxes were just the thing we needed to refuel while we chatted about all we’d done and seen and experienced. Once we were full up and raring to go again, we were off to enjoy round two of our favourite day of the summer: Wonderland Day.

Family Packing Car

This can be a tradition for you and your family, too. Especially now that we are in the Summer of Saving. Bring your own picnic lunch and drinks and save money on food… so that you can indulge in a Wonderland sweet treat. Funnel cake, anyone? And because it’s so important to stay hydrated when the dog days of summer hit, make sure you bring your own water bottle and fill up at one of the park’s many drinking fountains to save on water purchase. Staying hydrated feels extra good when you’re saving money at the same time.

Gas prices are a hot topic these days, and I think we can all agree that we’re not going to hold our breath waiting for them to come back down. For your Wonderland cheat day, keep the savings going by carpooling with friends. You’ll save on gas, and you’ll do something good for the environment. Or, skip the stress of driving your own vehicle and save even more by taking public transit. Both the TTC and YRT offer routes to get to the park for local guests. f you’re coming from farther away, GO Transit has several options as well. Sit back and enjoy the savings while you let someone else worry about the driving.

Here’s extra savings perk if you’re a CAA member: you can purchase online tickets through the CAA website that are even further discounted from Wonderland’s already discounted online price. For just $41.49 for a single day CAA Admission ticket, or $56.48 for a CAA Ride & Refresh ticket (admission plus all day-drinks), you’ll enjoy the signature excitement that Wonderland offers, set to the music of all your saved pennies jingling in your pocket.

Don’t let your Summer of Saving prevent you from making the most of the season. Take a break from all that saving and have a cheat day at Canada’s Wonderland.
