Five Fun Date Ideas Out of the City

Posted : August 8, 2019

Our blog is chock full of great ideas for fun things to see and do in York Durham and Headwaters. We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

Tired of fighting traffic to get your dinner reservation on time? Don’t want to get the exact same photo in the exact same spot that hundreds of other people have already Instagrammed in? Why not get out the city and explore some new fun ideas? We’ve rounded up five great date ideas – and don’t worry, there is something for everyone – even if it is your first date, tenth date, girls’ day out, or you and your imaginary friend.

Glamping at Alabaster Acres

Glamping

Now this is my kind of camping! Nestled into a beautiful forested area on a farm just outside of Caledon Village, Alabaster Acres offers two gorgeous glamping tents for visitors to stay in. Each tent is 16 ft x 20 ft and is completely screened in on the sides with front and back walls. They also sit on large decks which give guests an 8 ft covered front porch and a small uncovered back porch. Inside you will find a king-sized bed, a fold-out couch, mini-fridge, wood stove and firewood, cooking ware, dishes (any items necessary for cooking your own food), towels, and even a bluetooth speaker! Did I mention that a continental breakfast is included in the price of your stay? Because it is!

If you are a fan of camping, but your date is not, be sure to warn them that there is no toilet or shower inside of the tent, but there are separate shower houses and outhouses on the grounds for guests to share. The stand-alone kitchen prep area is also a shared space for guests.

Erin Farmer’s Market

Erin Farmers Market

Maybe you need to slow your life down a little bit, and take time to appreciate the little things in life. Every Friday from June 28th — September 27th, the village of Erin runs a local farmer’s market from 3:00pm-7:00pm at McMillan Park.

You may be wondering, “How is this a date idea?”. Well, a farmer’s market is not the same as a quick grocery shop – in fact, it is truly a fun and social experience! Together, you can try new foods, meet new people, and experience new setting. If you or your date are into buying and supporting local companies, this is a wonderful way to do so together.

Heartwood Farm & Cidery

Heartwood

Ciders always remind me of summer, and what better place to enjoy a summer date than at a local cidery? Heartwood boasts 4 signature ciders, and also rotates in seasonal or experimental ciders on occasion. Their ciders are dry and off-dry and sweetened using maple syrup from their very own maple trees (doesn’t get much more Canadian than that!). Their bottle packaging is also very cute, and I’m here. for. it.

Canada’s Wonderland

Yukon Striker Rollercoaster Top View

Are you a thrill-seeker? Or maybe you just want to try to prove to your date that you won’t throw up on the new Yukon Striker ride… Either way, going to Canada’s Wonderland is sure to be a date to remember! There are tons of rides for everyone (tame for the lame, wild for the riled) and lots of delicious over-priced food to choose from. They even sell beer in the park now
(which is crazy, because who wants to drink and then go on a rollercoaster!?) so if you’re feeling particularly excitable, there is that.

Additionally, there is a great waterpark which is included in the price of admission, unlike some amusement parks which try to charge you separately for entrance into the waterpark. One tip on this – they get you with the locker prices. Seriously, they’re insanely high. So stuff all your things into one locker, or take turns going on the waterslides while the other person watches the stuff… Yeah, that sounds like the best idea…

Dinner at Port Restaurant

Port

Although closed for renovations until the end of July, if you are looking for a more romantic evening to impress your date with, why not check out Port Restaurant in Pickering, ON? This global-American restaurant boasts a beautiful covered patio facing the bay with stunning views. I can most definitely picture a beautiful evening, staring into the sparkling bay waters… I mean, my date’s eyes… and devouring mountains of mouth-watering entrees. Any takers?
