Our blog is chock full of great ideas for fun things to see and do in York Durham and Headwaters. We are always adding new content and updating old posts, but sometimes you might stumble upon something from our vault. If this article has inspired you to hit the road, be sure to double-check that the featured stops in this post are still welcoming visitors.

As Uxbridge is getting ready for the 2022 holiday season, it is reliant on a super lineup of volunteers to make it all happen. Once again, they are aiming for a wonderful holiday season of lights, festive events, treats and fun for the whole family. You will definitely want to make Uxbridge one of your destinations this Christmas season.

Holiday Shopping

It really does take a village for all these events and displays to go off without a hitch. It is a perfect recipe for success. Year after year the lights get brighter and the anticipation builds as the local people work hard to put together fantastic festive displays.  All this to help us celebrate the holidays. The volunteer hours are exponential, and the payoff is widespread. Each home and family and business that partakes in these events will benefit.

The seasonal events in Uxbridge are numerous, and they draw in tourists from surrounding areas which is a win-win for everyone. Businesses benefit with additional customers and the visitors and locals have a super experience. One particular advantage to mention is community building which happens year after year as the volunteers work together to make this season bright.  They display pride in their beautiful city and share in the spirit of the season.

So, this Christmas season, the good people of Uxbridge are preparing to entertain people of all ages with the following events and exhibits.

Santa Clause Parade

Early on in the season is the famous Santa Clause Parade. This year will be held on November 19th at 11 am and will run along Brock Street. This is always a crowd pleaser and of course you know who comes along at the end for the big finish. Remember to dress warm and enjoy.

Santa Train

Running from November 26 until December 30th, the York Durham Heritage Railway is working with the locals to provide the Twinkling Ride. They also have the North Pole Light UP Express. This festive journey is fun for all ages and not to mention there will be a visit from Santa himself. Not sure if Rudolph can board the train but you never know.

Christmas Markets

There are two Christmas Markets to visit this year. The Rotary Christmas Market running November 12th-13th, has a beautiful display of lights, an assortment of vendors, musical performances and trolly rides. This is located at the Uxbridge Historical Centre at 7239 Concession Road 6 and tickets are $25 per person.  Another Christmas Market occurs at Tindal Farm, 13669 Durham Regional Rd 1. On December 10th and 11th they will be hosting 25 local vendors in their heated greenhouse. Sounds so cozy on a cold winter day.  Both of these themed markets are great places to start holiday shopping (and eating ;-))  and are both events you don’t want to miss.

Musical Event

Music by the Bay Live presents Together at Christmas, where you will experience a bluesy touch of music for the Christmas season. This live musical event will take place on December 3rd  at 8pm at the wonderful old Uxbridge Music Hall located in the heart of downtown at 16 Main Street.

Fantasy of Lights #Uxlights

Located at beautiful Elgin Park. This is a community effort of the Optimist Club, put on for the people of Uxbridge by the people of Uxbridge. From December 3rd through January 1st this astonishing light display is such a lovely way to boost the holiday spirit. It is a drive through event. IT’S FREE (donations happily accepted and go toward supporting local youth initiatives). There is also a horse drawn carriage that will take you through the light show. This has a reputation of being one of the best Christmas light shows in Canada.

Downtown Lights

Throughout the holiday season the downtown is superbly lit with more lights than one can count and make for a beautiful display. They typically turn on at 5 pm nightly, throughout the downtown, and throughout the holiday season. Such a lovely way to encourage a festive feeling while shopping and dining out, or just driving through the city. Fantastic!

During this season of giving, at each event there will be opportunities to donate to local charities, and a portion of profits from some of the venues will be donated. It is such a wonderful way of giving back to this community

It really is a community effort that brings in the holiday season in Uxbridge. This is a terrific example of how teamwork breads success. The town of Uxbridge is rapidly getting into the holiday spirit with all sorts of festive ideas. Come to Uxbridge and see for yourself some of the unique experiences awaiting you this holiday season.
